Jit Chan DDS & Associates is a Full Service Provider for all of your dental needs. We perform almost all dental procedures and have the latest technology including digital radiographs to save you time and money. Why go to different places when you can have all your work done in one place? We can take care of:
Regular teeth cleaning (Prophylaxis) is recommended to remove tartar (mineralized plaque) that may develop even with careful brushing and flossing, especially in areas that are difficult for a patient to reach on his own at home. Professional cleaning includes tooth scaling and tooth polishing and debridement if too much tartar has accumulated. This involves the use of various instruments or devices to loosen and remove deposits from the teeth.
Dental fillings are used to restore the function, integrity and morphology of missing tooth structure. Usually, that results from cavities or external trauma. Your dentist will consult with you to help you decide what treatments and materials are used for your dental care.
Some common dental filling options that we offer include:
- Composite resins (or tooth-colored fillings) – this is a mixture of glass or quartz filler that provides good durability and resistance to fracture in small- to mid-size fillings that need to withstand moderate pressure from chewing. They can be used on either front or back teeth. Tooth-colored materials are more natural looking than other fillings.
- Dental amalgam (also known as “silver-colored” fillings) – these are made from a combination of metals that include mercury, silver, tin, and copper. Dental amalgam has been used for generations by dentists. Amalgam is very durable and more affordable than tooth-colored or gold fillings.
Root canal treatment becomes necessary when the pulp (or soft tissue inside your teeth) becomes inflamed or diseased. Your dentist removes this diseased pulp, cleans the pulp chamber and root canal(s) and seals it. If this isn’t done, pain and swelling may occur and your tooth might have to be removed.
Different causes of an inflamed or diseased pulp can include:
- deep cavities
- repeated dental procedures
- cracked or broken teeth
- injuries to teeth
As long as you continue to take good care of your teeth and gums, your restored tooth could last your entire life. Most of the time, a root canal is simple and relatively painless.
Crowns, Bridges, and Veneers
Crowns – These can cover a tooth to help restore it to its normal shape and size. Crowns can also help make your tooth stronger, attach bridges, cover discolored teeth and dental implants.
Bridges – These help replace missing teeth with artificial teeth and “bridges” the gap where one or more teeth used to be. They can be made from a variety of materials and are attached to surrounding teeth for support. Not only can it help restore your smile, it can help your chewing and speaking as well.
Veneer – These are thin, custom shells created from a tooth-colored material that cover the front side of teeth. They can be used for stained, decayed, chipped or crooked teeth. Typically, veneers are created in a dental lab and placed irreversibly on your tooth.
Sometimes, because of disease, injury or crowding, teeth must be removed. This is known as an extraction.
Before an extraction, your dentist will first numb the area to reduce discomfort. After the extraction, your dentist will tell you exactly what steps you need to follow. Some other good advice to follow:
- Don’t smoke or rinse your mouth forcefully.
- Don’t drink through a straw for at least 24 hours.
- Don’t brush or floss teeth right next to the tooth that was removed.
- Follow your dentist’s recommended diet.
If there is swelling, apply a cold pack and call your dentist immediately. If required, your dentist will provide a prescription for pain medication.
A dental implant is an artificial tooth root used in dentistry to support restorations that resemble a tooth or group of teeth. Implants are popular for replacing missing teeth and taking the place of dentures or bridges. The development and use of implants is one of the biggest advances in dentistry in recent years.
Dentures and Partials are prosthetic devices constructed to replace missing teeth, and which are supported by surrounding soft and hard tissues of the oral cavity. Conventional dentures are removable; however there are many different denture designs, some which rely on bonding or clasping onto teeth or dental implants
A night guard can be an easy fix for countless uncomfortable dental issues including: clenching or grinding, stress to your TMJ and headaches. Wearing a custom night guard can offer effective and comfortable protection. Please call and ask us for more details or ask your dentist at your next visit with us.
Braces and Invisalign
Dental braces (also known as orthodontic braces, or simply braces) are devices used in orthodontics that align and straighten teeth and help to position them with regard to a person’s bite, while also working to improve dental health. They are often used to correct underbites, as well as malocclusions, overbites, cross bites, open bites, deep bites, crooked teeth, and various other flaws of the teeth and jaw.
Invisalign is a series of clear, removable teeth aligners that both orthodontists and dentists use as an alternative to traditional metal dental braces.
Teeth can become stained by bacterial pigments, foodstuffs and tobacco. Certain antibiotic medications (like tetracycline) can also lead to teeth stains or a reduction in the brilliance of the enamel. That is why we offer take-home whitening kits which comes with trays and bleaching gel to use at your own time and convenience at home. We also offer a one-hour whitening treatment in-office to save you time and visible results immediately.
